Day 16 & 17

Tag 16 bestand vor allem aus Autofahren. Von der Insel Saaremaa aus über den Damm nach Muhu, weiter mit der Fähre nach Virtsu. Von dort aus sind wir weiter nach Pärnu und dann immer an der Ostseeküste entlang, bis wir schließlich gegen 19h in Tuja am Stellplatz angekommen sind. Der Stellplatz liegt neben einem Bauernhof, direkt an der Küste. Eine Holztreppe führt hinunter zum Meer. Jeder Stellplatz hat eine Bank und einen Tisch mit Feuerstelle , die wir wegen der Trockenheit lieber nicht benutzt haben. Wir haben einen wunderschönen Sonnenuntergang gesehen! Heute früh konnte Chris am Strand noch eine Nebelkrähe beobachten. Als wir schon startklar zur Weiterreise waren, musste er doch noch mal los. Gänsesäger-Alarm!! Er konnte eine Gruppe in Strandnähe entdecken und wollte etwas näher ran.So hat er sich mit seiner Kamera in die Fluten begeben. Einen Gänsesäger konnte er gerade noch erwischen, bis der , wie alle anderen, unerreichbar auf dem Meer verschwunden ist! Endlich ging es dann doch weiter. Wir wollten heute wegen der Hitze nicht zu spät dran sein. Wir waren noch in Lettland, als wir neben der Straße eine schöne kleine russisch- orthodoxe Kirche entdeckt haben. Schnell ein Schnappschuss und weiter ging’s in Richtung Kaunas und von da ab in Richtung polnische Grenze. Heute hat es uns garnicht so gestört, so lange im Auto zu sitzen, vor allem als wir gesehen haben, dass die Außentemperatur bei 36,5 Grad lag! Was für ein Sommer! Gegen 18h haben wir uns dann entschieden einen Campingplatz zu suchen. In Ostpolen haben wir ein nettes Plätzchen in einem kleinen Seengebiet gefunden.Bei unserer Ankunft sind uns schon die dunklen Wolken aufgefallen, die sich immer mehr aufgetürmt und verdunkelt haben. Der Platzwart hat uns dann noch in Englisch auf die „weather forecast“ hingewiesen und kurz darauf fing das heftige Gewitter auch schon an. Klassisch mit starkem Regen, Blitzen und Donner über uns, wie es sich für ein ordentliches Sommergewitter gehört. So sitzen wir gemütlich in der Kabine und lassen den Abend mit Regenmusik ausklingen.

On day 16 we were rollin’…….We left the island Saaremaa and took the ferry from Muhu to Virtsu again. After we passed Pärnu we were driving down the coastal road. Around 7 p.m. we reached the campground in Tuja, that belongs to a farm right next to the Baltic Sea. A wooden stairway leads down to the beach. There is a firesite with a picnic table at each spot. We didn’t use it cause it’s way to dry. We had a beautiful sunset at the beach and a cool night to sleep. This morning Chris could watch a hooded crow at the beach. We were almost done with packing when Chris had to go down to the beach again. Mergansers in sight! He discovered six mergansers swimming nearby. so he took his camera and jumped into the water. He could catch a merganser for a short view but then saw him disappearing like all others into the open sea. Finally we continued our way back home. Once more we saw a Orthodox Russian Church on our way through Latvia. A short snapshot and then we kept on driving to Kaunas. We’re heading towards the Polish Border and we were pretty happy to sit in our car while the temperature outside was 36,5 degrees Celsius (97,7 F) ! What a hot summer! We decided to stop for today at around 6 p.m. and found a nice campground in Eastern Poland in the middle of nowhere with a lot of lakes around us. The guide at the campground explained the weather forecast and told us to expect heavy rain and thunderstorm. That’s what we already knew cause we saw all the dark clouds in the sky! We had a thunderstorm with all that belongs to it! Now we are sitting in the camper, listening to the rain and relax for today.
